Polka Dot Groom

logo-polkadotgroom.jpg

A huge thanks to our friends at Polka Dot Groom for taking the time to talk to us about our mission to bring the bow tie back! Polka Dot Groom is an offshoot of the every popular Polka Dot Bride website and offers an array of helpful hints and tips for grooms preparing for their big day.

Here's some of the advice we offered in the article:

“We recommend selecting a colour that works with the rest of the wedding theme, be it taking a colour from the bridesmaid’s dresses, flowers or decorations.

“If you go with self-tie bow ties, be sure to provide your collar measurement to ensure a snug fit.

“Lastly and especially if you’re new to tying a bow tie, be sure to practice tying beforehand or have someone handy to help out, just in case your nerves get the better of you on the big day!”

Adaptations Collection

The rules for menswear are changing, and Melbourne label That Dapper Chap is leading the way.

Our latest collection, Adaptions, features a considered selection of six bow ties favoured for their versatility. Each style is handmade in Melbourne, carefully crafted with functionality and flexibility in mind.

Gone are the days when Melbourne men were expected to play it safe with colours, fabrics and styles. Welcome to the next chapter in our city’s history that encourages men to express their personality and creativity in new ways that reflect our booming music, arts and culinary scene.

If you’ve never considered rocking a bow tie, think again. Dress them up or dress them down. Experiment with our accessories and make them your own. The possibilities are endless.

A huge thanks to Paradise Alley for the use of their incredible space, our awesome photographer Daniel Milligan, superstar stylist Emily Ziccone and models Pete, Wonky, Evan and Vaughn.

Transitions Collection

The Transitions Collection features six themes with each containing a range of bowties, ties, pocket squares and cufflinks with all fabrics sourced from Phillips Shirts, the longest running menswear label in Melbourne.

The closing of the Phillips Shirts factory and shop on Little Lonsdale Street created an opportunity for the Dapper team to buy up big from the iconic labels factory.

“We snapped up what we could in the hope to preserve our own little snapshot of Melbourne’s rag trade history,” George says.

“We hope to continue the legacy of Phillip Phillips and Alex Peterfreund, the original dapper chap’s of Melbourne, along with Andrew Peterfreund, son of Alex, who has run Phillips since 1988.”

View the Transitions Collection lookbook shot on the factory floor of Phillips Shirts. The full collection is currently available at That Dapper Chap

Who are we? Who is That Dapper Chap?

Who are we? Who is That Dapper Chap?

That Dapper Chap is a collaboration of creativity, gentlemanly style, and fun between four friends, George, Celeste, Mikaela, and Laura. Our label was born out of a desire to have quality handmade accessories that mean more than a price tag.

We felt that something special had been lost over time, something tactile and traditional, and that something was the art of tying (and wearing) a bow tie.

Combining technology, craftsmanship and locally sourced materials, we handcraft specialty accessories for the men of Melbourne and beyond.

We produce classically styled self-tie bow ties with a view that no bow tie should be perfectly symmetrical and we believe that imperfection is what makes us great, what makes us human.

Our range of contemporary accessories is our tribute to you; to the doers, thinkers, and sleeper-inners. This label is our tribute to the creased shirts, and spilt coffee; to achieving new heights, and to enjoying the quiet moments.

We hope you love our bow ties as much as we love making them.

Why Blueprints?

Why Blueprints?

Back to the drawing board, back to the sketch book, back to our roots and our basics.

‘Blueprints’ resembles a collection of bow ties that exude a casual sophistication and calm coolness, perfect for the races, that Christmas party, and summer drinks after work.
‘Blueprints’ is a celebration of all things design; we’re shouting out to the doers, thinkers, and creators that have shaped how we see and experience design today. It is ok to be unsure, to rethink your position and to redesign and reignite your passion. It is essential to our development to consider what elements of our lives work for us.

We’ve redesigned our bow ties to best suit you, your needs, and the good times to come. Go back to basics, and get into blueprints.
